Drawing on Museum and Gallery Leaflets
Since 2013, I have developed an ongoing body of work using museum and gallery leaflets as both material and starting point. Rather than treating these printed objects as documentation, I transform them through a slow, labour-intensive drawing process in which their original imagery is partially concealed and reinterpreted.Working with permanent markers, mesh, Tipp-ex and layered mark-making, I respond to the colours, compositions and visual rhythms already present in each leaflet. The drawings sit between abstraction and intervention, exploring ideas of memory, value, authorship and the changing life of everyday urban objects. Each work retains the title of the exhibition or event from which the leaflet originated, allowing its previous identity to remain visible while acquiring a new one. This series continues to grow as an evolving archive of places visited, exhibitions experienced and printed ephemera collected over time.
